What are Transitional Living Services?

BCFS’ Transitional Living Services prepare foster youth and alumni for life on their own. While most young adults have parents or guardians to help them navigate the process of buying their first car or renting their first apartment, children in foster care generally do not have that kind of firm support system once they age out of state custody. BCFS helps fill this void.

Focusing on communities’ unique needs and services is important for BCFS’ transition center initiative, which provides at-risk and foster youth “one stop shopping” for increased accessibility to services such as healthcare, transitional housing, job training, education services, financial support and a variety of other needs essential to young adults coming out of state care.

BCFS’ Transitional Living Services was the first rural transition program for youth aging out of the foster care system in the State of Texas. Recognized as a trailblazer in this much needed field, BCFS has been tapped to serve as a consultant to developing rural transition programs.
