MEDICAL SHELTERING JURISDICTIONAL TRAINING: BCFS provides training to governments, municipalities, health departments, nonprofits and private businesses throughout the nation on best practices relating to staffing equipment needs, unique dietary requirements, as well as health and mental health issues when caring for the medical population. Medical Shelter Training for Emergency Management Professionals Addresses policies and procedures, theory and expected outcomes of establishing medical sheltering operations in your jurisdiction. The course focuses on how to establish and staff medical shelters; triage for shelter assignment; support medical shelters and the shelter population’s unique needs; and how to integrate medical shelter operations into your existing Emergency Operating Plans. Course Time – Approx. 4 hours
Medical Shelter Manager Course Provides comprehensive medical sheltering operation instruction, focusing on organization, staffing, policies and procedures, shelter layout, record keeping and chain of command. This session includes practical exercise activities using dynamic guest arrival and triage scenarios. Course Time – Approx. 6 hours
Training for Medical Shelter Volunteers A brief but comprehensive orientation giving insight into medical sheltering operations. This allows volunteers to integrate easily into the response to support medical sheltering efforts. Course Time – Approx. 1 hour
Just in Time Training for Medical Personnel Outlines responsibilities, standard operating procedures, standing orders, record keeping, disaster medical care, triage and relationships between the medical director, nurses, paramedics and emergency medical technicians during medical sheltering operations. (This course can be pre-arranged or delivered in a Just-in-Time format.) Course Time – Approx. 1 hour
Emergency Case Management Training for Caseworkers (Emergency casework is significantly different than traditional case work) This course prepares assigned caseworkers to assist in the placement of evacuees back into their pre-disaster life situation. The course focuses on short-term, readilyattainable goals to facilitate the guests’ transition back into mainstream life. Course Time – Approx. 1.5 hours
